SAR, China - Hong Kong – 4 Days 3 Nights (Part 2 - To do/see,to eat）Day 3

Fa Yuen Street Market and Cooked Food Centre 花園街市政大廈

The wet market is very structured and has 3 levels. The top served food not unlike our hawker, 2^nd floor sells pork and vegetables and the first floor is all the seafood. 

There is a few roast stalls on the first floor as well.

It was interesting to see how things are sold differently in HK. 

Particularly the fishes. The fishes look exceedingly fresh. Some stalls have the fishes laid out others have fresh fish placed in tank.

The fish with the maw is displsyed for all to see. 

The vegetables all look exceedingly fresh.

The pork is all hanged up. This is a scene we rarely see in Singapore nowadays.

The cooked food centre (da pai dang) looks like a good place to eat as well. A little similar to our hawker centre concept.

Its quite a mess at the queue

I was escatic when I see that there is no queue at the peak tram. Little did I know the the queue is now on the other side of the road. We are told the queue will last for 2.5 hours, another option is for us to purchase the Madam Tussands and peak tram package and we can head up in 30 minutes. Since, we have taken the peak tram and also madam tussauds so I am not so keen on both options.  

This is the actual queue - horrible....

Taking a cab appears to be difficult at the peak too. We walked off and before crossing the road noticed that there is lots of taxi on the other side of the peak tram building that was obscured by pillars. We took a cab to the peak in under 15 minutes and paid HK 50.

And someone's super duper happy to get to the top at last.

The rest of the time we waited around Lion pavilion to see the sunset. Today is a cloudy day but its still nice to see the sunset from the top. The change in colour is pretty to scene but the day we went, its still quite cloudy. 

If getting to the peak is a challenge, I think getting down the peak is much worse. 

There is queue for the taxi (totally random), some taxi demand a minimum of HK 300 to go down, the final alternative is to take the bus. The bus queue started to form really long and we are lucky to get on the first bus. It was a long winding road down and it is quite difficult to balance. I doubt I will head back up for sunset view again.

To Eat:

Kim Wah Cafe金華冰廳 – 3.5 stars, budget
47 Bute Street, Prince Edward, Hong Kong

We ordered the must orders per our listing, milk tea, egg tarts and also the bolo butter bun. The shop also showcased that their award winning toast. So we decided to give it a try. We asked if we should order more and the waitress cheerfully told us that we should hold any other orders now as the servings is quite huge.

Yes! I saw the biggest bolo butter bun I had seen. The bolo bun though nice but its too much bread and too little butter.

The toast is quite another story! Its well fried and the butter which melts as you eat the toast is so delicious. Its quite a match with the syrup that they request us to pour on the toast.

Sing Hueng Yen 勝香園– 3.5 stars, budget
2 Mee Lun Street, Central, Hong Kong

I was still quite full from breakfast. So we only ordered a bowl of macaroni tomato with beef slices. The beef slices is tender. But I am not really a fan of tomato based macaroni, lucky we only ordered a bowl to share else we will have difficulty finishing it.

Somehow this place is extremely popular, with many tourists and locals visiting it.

Directly opposite Sing Hueng Yen is Kau Kee Restaurant九記牛腩, there is also a super long queue for it.

Tsui Wah Restaurant 翠華餐廳– 3.5 stars, mid range
1A The Peak Galleria, 118 Peak Road, Hong Kong

If you want local food at the peak, there aren’t many options. I didn’t know there is Mak noodles here and since we already had it the day before we won’t be having it again.

I ordered their 4 types of fishball noodles. The noodles took me by surprise as it was expecting such a texture. It’s a little chewy and yet jelly like. I really like that very much. The fish balls is soft and QQ or tough and hard. Quite 2 different textures and taste to savour.

The pig trotters noodle that Hubs ordered is nice though its good to know that the noodle is instant noodles.

We ordered a bowl of wantons to share. The prawn wantons are quite tasty.

Hubs is in love with all things milk tea in Hong Kong. This is their ice chilled milk tea. 

Gecko – 3.5 stars, mid range
Au’s Building, Ezra’s Lane, Central, Hong Kong

I wanted to visit this place because it serves whiskey and it’s a live jazz bar. The location of this bar isn’t really fantastic as it doesn’t face the road and you have to walk down a dark alleyway in the midst of construction place.

The whole bar is empty except for us! There is no live jazz on Mondays only jazz music from the radio. The waitress is very helpful and recommended us some whiskey to sip. She suggested for us to try whiskey straight up which i firmly decline. So its on the rocks for us.

Not the type of atmosphere I was expecting in a bar but it was great for us to try our first whiskey and rest our tired legs after a long long day.
