Wedding bands and diamond rings can be scratched!

Some things are learnt the hard way. Through experience. Things that jewellers don't tell you is that rings particularly gold (be it rose gold or yellow gold) and silver, they are can be scratched and this becomes evident and visible to the eye in one year after constant wear and tear. So i did a little research. Here's what i found: Best Bets for Scratch-Resistance Tungsten: For sheer durability and scratch resistance, there is no better metal available on the commercial ring market than tungsten. Generally only slightly to moderately more expensive than titanium, tungsten rings maintain their shine and polish for far longer than gold, silver, or even titanium rings. There is very little damage that will be incurred by tungsten rings in daily use; if you don't like taking your ring off when you're working, that's ok-you probably don't have to. However, tungsten is also very unlikely to bend from impact-related damages, and instead can shatter or break. S...

The perfect wedding and more than what a bride can wish for (REALLY!)

Its been 8 days after my wedding. Everything still seemed so surreal. The wedding ran smoothly and perfectly. And i felt like a superstar with at least 5 cameras shooting me at any one time excluding the videographer. :) Nearly had a heart attack when the make up artist was late. Agreed time was 6.50 am and earlier. As my mum insisted that i must be out of the house before 9 am. The PGs and VG had all arrived and still no sight of the MUA. *Hopping mad*. Fortunately, the gate crashing is short and sweet. (Send my love to my dear bridemaids) The bestmen never knew the doors ain't locked since the beginning. Funny how gentlemanly they all were. The other minor set backs on the actual day was the bride suffering from lack of sleep. So my efforts of sleeping early for the week went down the drain. And i still ended up with puffy eyes. This cannot be helped as i seriously couldn't sleep the night before the wedding. Sigh! And of course my clasp behind my gown had to give way...

The new Poh Heng

So far my experience with them has been not too bad. Recently, i took my engagement ring to re-size as it is too loose for me to wear since the very beginning. And there are numerous scratches on the engagement after 2 years of wear and tear. Part of the band has turned yellow somehow (i swear i didn't wear it for housework), so its time for it to go for an overhaul prior to my photoshoot in mid-june. The kiasu me want to make very sure that everything is done way in advance. Apparently, the servicing of the ring only needs 3 days. It still cost me S$45 to make it scratch free and as good as new. Now i can't bear to wear it till my phootshoot and my wedding day months down the road. Anyway, i'm quite impressed with the new packaging that Poh Heng has done. It doesn't seem so passe. Its more modern and refreshing. And i'm most impressed with the ring box. The entire interior of the box is now BLACK. I makes my solitaire stands out all the more. Not only tha...

St Regis

The wedding invite The formal invite that was sent to me. But it didn't arrive on time for the wedding show. Still i'm very impressed with the invite. The envelope is lined with bronze liner. Reception The poster of the wedding show. Directions are not specific to direct us but the staff service provides a personal touch redeem the lack of directions. View from 2nd level. I like the play of lights against the mirrored wall. The other vendors during the wedding show. Vera Wang gown on display. Piaget jewllery. Showcase of the wedding bands. We are shown a pair of wedding bands (a band within a band) the other band can rotate. Live music set at the stage. I've ascertained that live music creates the ambience for the event. Ballroom This stair case studded with lights lead the way to the ballroom. And yes, i haven't get over my liking of long winding staircase and chandeliars. Imagine your wedding at st regis. This helps you to envision y...

Soo Kee Review

After waiting for weeks, i finally got impatient. So i dropped an email Soo Kee writing about the situation and their promise to provide a ring pillow. Immediately within hours, i got a call. From the Vivo city outlet. Woah.... That's prompt! I was informed that the new ring pillows will be delivered in one week. And i may be able to collect it soon. :D of course I collected it already. They called me when the pillows arrived and reserved one for me which is great. The manager patiently show me how to tie the rings. Its a little different from what shown on websites. Let me describe it briefly in case i forget how to tie them months down the road. 1. Make a loop and slip the Male ring. 2. Hold on the loop, take another strand of ribbon. Make another loop. Slip on the other Female ring in the other loop. 3. Tie the 2 loops together to form a bow. 4. Arrange as desired. The manager offered to do it perfectly for me. So i need not tie do it myself. I'm quite touc...

Engraving is a popular way for couples to personalize their wedding rings, and there are many different types of sentiments that can be inscribed on rings depending on whether the couple is interested in a simple romantic note, a funny, quirky engraving, or a sentimental inscription. WARM & FUZZY Give me a thousand kisses (Hers); And then a thousand more (his) I keep the ends out (Hers); for the tie that binds (His) For you see, each day I love you more (Hers); Today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow (His) Grow old with me! Ring size - Tips for Engagement rings and Wedding Bands

A professional jeweler can determine proper ring size using a set of steel gauge-rings. These "ring sizers" come in narrow and wide widths. Other methods, such as measuring the finger with a strip of paper, or slipping the finger through pre-cut "measuring holes", are inaccurate. A wider band can be worn more loosely. Large knuckles/hands should wear a slightly loose ring, while slimmer knuckles/smaller hands will require a tighter ring. A good way for a "rough-and-ready" measurement is to find a ring that is just smaller than the second knuckle of the finger. This way the fit is comfortable but will not slide off the finger. The method of trying on a ring and shaking the hand violently, to see if the ring comes off. Tips: (1) Fingers change over the course of the day. It has been recommended that fingers be measured at the end of the day, when they are at their largest diameters. Heat makes fingers thicker. Cold makes fingers thinner. (2) Midda...
