The Art of Marriage

I came across this writing that nicely sums up what marriage should be: by Wilferd Arlan Peterson "A good marriage must be created. In marriage the "little" things are the big things. It is never being too old to hold hands. It is remembering to say, ”I love you" at least once a day. It is never going to sleep angry. It is having a mutual sense of values, and common objectives. It is standing together and facing the world. It is forming a circle that gathers in the whole family. It is speaking words of appreciation, and demonstrating gratitude in thoughtful ways. It is having the capacity to forgive and forget. It is giving each other an atmosphere in which each can grow. It is a common search for the good and the beautiful. It is not only marrying the right person -- it is being the right partner."

The joy of blogging

Blogging is about sharing your ideals and experience. And of course, while i may have encounter many detours along the way, i hope others will learn from my lessons and mishaps along the way. Well, to share with you something exciting that happen. We got the letter from HDB informing us that our house will soon be READY! Yippee! and i've been busy researching on home decor and bloggers who share their journey of creating a place call "HOME". The information that the bloggers shared has helped me alot! Really. So i was glad that i did my little journey of blogging and the great satisfaction i got from the process. Though currently, i may have lesser to share on weddings. My other experience like my home decor which some will consider part and parcel of weddings will hopefully be helpful in your preparation. I will also share on my F&E Switzerland and Paris honeymoon for people who are interested in doing it. It wasn't too bad and i like having the leisure of ...

New Look

Yups! Solitaire Wedding has undergone a new look. Post wedding. The transition from singlehood to marriage isn't that bad. Not that my other partner is easy to live with. I'm attempting to change some of his habits. Fortunately he didn't try to change mine. :) I'm not having it easy either. I missed home cooked food the most. The outside food is giving me weight gain. I've accumulated kilos since the wedding. Something i'm attempting to shed. One new colleague thought that i haven go through my customary. Ok i'm a vainpot. I like to be slim and slender. Which girl doesn't by the way? Housework is always hounding me nowadays. I try to make him do it as much as i can. Its a fair world. Guys you shouldn't make the girls do all the work and shake leg. We are both working and we need to put our feet up sometimes and indulge in ourselves sometimes. So help out! That said let me go pester my other half to do his bit now.

Mini album

I made this cute mini album using our photoshoot photos a while back as i was so into my holy matrimony then. All high and jazzed up. Its so mini and definitely easy to lug around since its the size of a thumb. The quality of the finishing is good. And what i love about it, is the express service. I got it under 1.5 hrs with no surcharges. Whatever is free is good. And now when i want to reminisce about my wedding, i can whip it out from my handbag and browse. How convenient.

Sick yet again

I think recently i've fallen sick on a regular basis. And all in a short span of 2 weeks apart from each other. I wonder if its because i tried to impede the process by taking loads of vitamins Prior the wedding. I had the unfortunate encounter by having an eye stye. I never had one for my entire life. And just before the wedding it had to strike me. I was frantic. But i suppose it serves me right as i have used the contaminated eye lash product that i left unused for 1 month. All for the sake of looking my best on my day and it had the opposite effect. Fortunately i had 1.5 weeks before the actual day. And my doctor assured me that i will be well before. Alas few days down the road, i was down with flu. But it went away fast enough. Then before the honeymoon i was sniffing and coughing in office yet again. But it dissappeared miraculously enough. And now days after i return from honeymoon, i was struck with sore throat, inflammation and high fever on Friday. Taking the panadol...

The perfect wedding and more than what a bride can wish for (REALLY!)

Its been 8 days after my wedding. Everything still seemed so surreal. The wedding ran smoothly and perfectly. And i felt like a superstar with at least 5 cameras shooting me at any one time excluding the videographer. :) Nearly had a heart attack when the make up artist was late. Agreed time was 6.50 am and earlier. As my mum insisted that i must be out of the house before 9 am. The PGs and VG had all arrived and still no sight of the MUA. *Hopping mad*. Fortunately, the gate crashing is short and sweet. (Send my love to my dear bridemaids) The bestmen never knew the doors ain't locked since the beginning. Funny how gentlemanly they all were. The other minor set backs on the actual day was the bride suffering from lack of sleep. So my efforts of sleeping early for the week went down the drain. And i still ended up with puffy eyes. This cannot be helped as i seriously couldn't sleep the night before the wedding. Sigh! And of course my clasp behind my gown had to give way...

How can it be?

I just bought a new ink authentic HP cartridge. It printed 10 pieces of 3R pictures. And the ink quality declined drastically. How can it be? According to the website it should print at least 300 pages. Ok i'm doing intensive printing for pictures but it should give me more than 50 pages at the least before giving up at least? Grrrrl. The shop that sold me ask me to go to HP solution centre at Alexandra Road. I've have to queue to exchange just one cartridge? Are you kidding me??? Frustrated.

Will you be my bridesmaid?

"photos are from weddingchicks.com" This is albeit of a corny way to ask your friends for help. But i think its quite a cute idea. But of course, i never did this. I did the traditional way. Asking them. The bridemaids are very important to my wedding. Girls i'm counting on you! Much love and thanks in advance.

For the bridesmaids

Tokyo Fashion. Online Shopping so so fun. Anyway, recently there is a sale at Tokyo fashion. What's different this time is they provide direct shipping to Singapore if you purchase more than 15 pcs. Its a super good time to rope in all your girl friends and make a purchase. I bought my bridemaids dresses at this spree. My sis and i combined and purchase 23 pieces of clothes at one shot. Eagerly waiting for the loots to arrive. I love online shopping. Its easy, fuss free and cheap. Quality is better than those purchases from Lion City. Price is extremely affordable. Some of the dresses i short listed: Check their website out now: http://tw.user.bid.yahoo.com/tw/booth/mayuki0920

Home decor make over - Part 1

All you need to do to an old house is a little sprucing up. Room makeover Before This room is rented out and now will be our wedding room temporarily until our house it completed. After Living room makeover Before After A coat of paint is all it needs to give everything a new lease of life. If you really really wish to save, the best way is to do it yourself. That's what we did. Its a lot of hard work, sweat and toil. Me being the girl gets to ya ya. The men did all the difficult part. And i got a beautiful house. A little more furnishing is all it needs to make this house perfect.

How to make life difficult for the bestmen!

This is a super innovative idea by my friend. And i personally think that this is really interesting. Spicy buffalo wings at Sunset Grill. Its actually a eat out place at singapore flying club. And its super ulu. But you definitely need a car to get in. Its fun to try. I nearly killed myself trying the super hot wings. The lips just turned red and sore. I couldn't make myself finish that one wing. But i did finish one. And this is only level 3 only. There are like 30 levels to go. Kudos to my friend and boyfriend who took 2 of the wings each. Downed the wings with Erdinger beer. At least this made the wings bearable. ah yes... i'm a little alcoholic. :D And the super nice fried mushrooms recommended by my friend who brought us there. I heard the guys who tried out the level 15 wings on my friends wedding day thinks its not spicy at all (of course la, they peeled off the skin that is mains). Somehow, my SO is begging to try level 5 chicken wings. Alloz, these wings...

Bride's Dowry

The bride's parents may send the bride's dowry with return gifts on the day of bethrothal or delivery the dowry a few days before the wedding. This is to bless the newly weds and to symbolize that the bride is ready to take on the role of wife and mum. This is done ususally before the wedding and usually on the same day as the Guo Da Li or after. The chinese downry typically includes: (1) Beddings: pillows, bolstrs, comforter set, blankets, bed sheets etc. all tied with red ribbons (2) new clothes in suitcase for the bride (3) Tea set for the wedding tea ceremony (4) Baby bathtub, potty, face wash basin, tumblers, toothpaste and toothbrushes, mirror, comb (5) 2 pairs of wedding slippers or red wooden clogs (6) Sewing basket with even numbered rolls of colourful thread, needles, pin cushion with many boys, scissors and sewing wax with auspicious words written on it (7) 1 rulers (8) Pair each of bowl, with chopsticks and spoons

Guo Da Li

Before the wedding, the chinese tradition of Guo Da Li (GDL) or formal betrothal takes place. Traditionally a lady of good fortune (someone who is married and has children) will come to the bride's home with the bridegroom and present the gifts from his family. This is his assurance that he will abide by and honour his promise. The bride's family will receive the gifts as a sign of acceptance of the marraige and will in return present the dowry to the groom's family. When to do it: Usually 2 weeks before the customary wedding, sometimes up to 1 month before actual day. What to prepare: (1) Wedding cakes This is to give relative's and parent's friends (2) 2 bottles of brandy (3) 2 pairs of Dragon & Phoenix Candles (4) Even number of oranges (5) At least 6 cans of pork trotters (6) Red packet with bride downry ("Pin Jin" 聘金) This is either pre-agreed during the wedding negotiation or the bride's parents may leave it to the grooms...

Poem

"Roses are red Violets are blue I have a dream My dream is you" This is so old school. I went to this shop called "the little drom store". They sell very old school nit nats. Like the erasures in different flags, mininature army plastic soldiers, styrofoam birds/planes, sticky bewelled earrings. Bring back the days in school. They also sell cards. And among this is one of the favourite autograph phrases then. "Roses are red violets are blue I have a friend My friend is you" Inspired by it and also its so applicable to my wedding colour. Red and blue. Okies. This is totally random and partially related to wedding. :D

Intellectual Property - Copyrights

This issue (Copyright Licences for Music and/or Videos at Your Business ) came up quite unexpectedly from the news. And there is a lot of discussion on this but it all came from a professional photographer and videographer point of view. Nobody seems interested in taking care of the wedding couple's point of view. So to draw the line between facts and myth. Here are extract from the IPOS website which i think applies. When is a licence not required?
