Shopping at UNIQLO Japan & My Stay at Base Layer Hotel Nagoya

Japan has a talent for turning everyday things into experiences — even something as simple as buying winter wear or checking into a small hotel. On this trip, two things stood out: a very successful shopping spree at UNIQLO Japan, and an unexpectedly delightful stay at Base Layer Hotel Nagoya.

Here’s my full review — personal, honest, and exactly what made both moments special.

UNIQLO Japan (Nagoya Gate Tower Store) – My Best Shopping Haul Yet

1 Chome-1-3 Meieki, Nakamura Ward, Nagoya, Aichi 450-6611, Japan

I always enjoy browsing UNIQLO, but shopping in Japan is on a completely different level. Prices are better, the options are wider, and the shopping experience feels smoother and calmer.

What I Bought (and Loved):

J.W. Anderson Winter Collection

I couldn’t resist the JWA winter buys — the textures, the colors, the patterns, the slight modern British twist. Everything felt premium without the hefty designer price tag. It’s the kind of collaboration that actually looks and feels better in person.

Super AIRism (Men’s) Pants

This was a surprise favourite.
The Super AIRism men’s pants are incredibly lightweight, cooling, breathable, and perfect for Singapore humid weather. I bought them thinking “just to try,” and now I’m convinced these might be the best everyday travel pants UNIQLO makes.

Heattech Essentials

No UNIQLO Japan trip is complete without Heattech. I stocked up on:

  • Ultra Warm Heattech cashmere tops
  • Heattech cashmere leggings

These came in so handy for Nagano's chillier weather.

Why UNIQLO Japan Still Wins

  • Better pricing than overseas stores
  • Japan-exclusive colours + designs
  • Pants alterations completed in 2 hours
  • Stress‑free tax‑free shopping
  • Magical self‑checkout that scans everything all at once

Base Layer Hotel Nagoya – Small, Modern, and Surprisingly Perfect

Japan, 〒460-0003 Aichi, Nagoya, Naka Ward, Nishiki, 2 Chome−6−30 BASE LAYER HOTEL 1F

After my UNIQLO haul, I checked into Base Layer Hotel Nagaya, and honestly, this stay felt like a pleasant discovery.

It’s modern, clean, thoughtfully designed, and even though the space is compact, nothing feels inconvenient. It’s the kind of place where every detail serves a purpose.

My Personal Take

1. Compact but Complete

The hotel is tight in space — no sugarcoating — but everything you need is there. Nothing feels missing.

  • You can stow luggage neatly under the bed, which frees up walking space.
  • Bed space fits 2 pax comfortably (surprisingly cozy!).
  • The room maximizes every inch in a clever, functional way.

2. Smart, Modern Room Design

The interior is my absolute favourite part.

The room is decorated in teal, white, black, and light wood — which coincidentally matches my current favourite interior palette. It feels calm, minimalist, and stylish without trying too hard.

You also get:

  • USB-A and USB-C charging points (finally!)
  • A side table with a side lamp
  • A pegboard wall for hanging small items — super handy

It’s simple but beautifully put together.

3. Auto Self Check-In and Out

The hotel uses automatic self check-in, which I love.
Quick, fuss-free, and no awkward front desk interactions after a long day.

UNIQLO + Base Layer: The Ideal Japan Travel Pairing

Shopping at UNIQLO Japan and staying at Base Layer Hotel Nagoya ended up being two of the most enjoyable, practical parts of my trip.

  • UNIQLO gave me all the winterwear I needed (plus irresistible JWA finds).
  • Base Layer gave me a cozy, well-designed place to rest — small but perfect in its own way.

Together, they made the trip feel effortless, warm, and exactly the kind of Japan experience I love: simple, functional, and thoughtfully designed.

Panasonic steam oven NU-SC100WYPQ "Cutie" Product Review

I wanted to get weeks about it  I purchased this item from Tangs at SGD $399. They are having a promotion of discount SGD $50 if you spend SGD $500. So i top up with a vacuum tumbler and pyrex glass dish. After several months of using, here are my comments on this cutie steam oven. This is purely a steam oven with no microwave function. One of the rare oven with no microwave function.  I am ok with it as i steam fishes regularly and its a perfect addition of appliance. The other alternative is the miele steam oven and it is on offer at the same time for SGD $1600. The oven can be plugged to main power point as it is at 13 amp.  Summary: Here are some of my observations using the steam oven.  Buns Easy peasy for the early morning rush to work, put the char siew bao into the oven. Set it to 10 mins and you can steaming hot bun to eat for breakfast. Fish I steam fish majority of the time. It is super easy to use for steaming fish Vegetables Tr...

Kose Beauty Centre Facial Review (Isetan Scotts)

I was very very taken aback when i entered the unassuming beauty salon right in the heart of orchard. While the place is clean and design is simple, it was very sparsely furnished considering its brand name and in comparision with Yamano (the other japanese salon i went).  I entered the facial premises after i passed through the hair salon. What greeted me makes my jaw dropped even more, the room is bare. There is no wall partitions for privacy, in its place are curtains hung to separate the different beds. And i am able to see all the facial therapist and guests. Each therapist handles 2 guests both at the same time!!! From My session suppose to start at 3 pm since my therapist is also handling another customer, i whipped out my phone and start playing candy crush till my therapist is available at 3.30pm. The therapist started by cleaning my face and recommending the appropriate therapy for my skin. I was advised to do the  Whitening & Anti-ageing Treatment an...

Wedding solemnisation at Chijmes - Review

Having a romantic church wedding is the dream of every girl, myself included. But unless you're a christian, its almost impossible to hold your wedding solemnisation at a church.  In japan, the church wedding concept is very prevalent and it comes at a price. One such place is Hotel Monterey Kyoto with a "church" extension that can fulfill a bride-to-be dream church wedding. So if we love to hold a wedding at a chapel in Singapore, Chijmes is the place to go. Chijmes is a beautifully structure historic building complex in Singapore that has been gazetted as a national monumnet. It once housed a Catholic convent school known as the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus (CHIJ) and their convent quarters known as Caldwell House. It has been restored for commercial purposes, such as shopping, dining and an entertainment centre. Here is the views of the former church decorated as a solemnisation venue. For solemnisation, the 2 aisles will serve as the d...
