Ipoh - Cameron Highlands - Kuala Lumpur 4 Days 2 Nights Road Trip

Day 1:
·       Eat: Lunch- Yong Peng Yuan Yean Fishball, Dinner - Onn Kee Tauge Ayam
·       Stay: Ipoh Bali Hotel

To Eat:

Yong Peng Yuan Yean Fishball Eating House
122A-123 Main Rd, 83700 Yong Peng, Johor, Malaysia

Food still taste the same. I think the fishball is very Q and has more bite to it. Although I don’t really like it but its been a while since i am here and i forgetten the taste. The yong tau foo was good then. Should have just ordered it.

I like the fried beancurd though. Nice and salty enough.

I will also definitely order the otah too. its really nice.

Onn Kee Tauge Ayam
51, Jalan Yau Tet Shin, 30000 Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia.

The chicken is not bad smooth and tender. But still like the white chicken here better.

But I am amazed by the bean sprouts. Its really very fat and juicy. It is a MUST TRY.

I’ve never tasted bean sprouts like this before.
Don’t expect it to be cooked, it’s kind of like raw bean sprouts drizzled with soya sauce.

To Stay:

Ipoh Bali Hotel

12, Lorong Cheah Cheang Lim, 30350 Ipoh, Negeri Perak, Malaysia

Check in service is good.

Room is nicely decorated and very spacious.

Bed is a little on the hard side and pillows are relatively flat.
The air-con remote control seems a faulty but I managed to get it to the temperature I wanted.

The toilet is delightful with a sky well but inadequate hooks for towels and clothes.

I stayed on level 1 and I had to climbed a flight of stairs up. I didn’t accept the offer to help carry the luggage as I thought I was staying on ground level. Really hard to lug up my luggage and the stair handles was newly painted which I cannot grab for support.

There is a roof top garden for guests to relax. Its quite pretty just a pity the view is simple neighbourhood.

Day 2:
·       See: Green view garden, Cameron Tringkap Bee Farm, Cactus valley, Big red strawberry farm, Cameron valley teahouse 2
·       Eat: Breakfast- Hotel breakfast and Chooi Yue Dim Sum, Tea- Green View Garden, Lunch: Watercress valley, Dinner- Cameron organic steamboat
·       Stay: Heritage hotel

To Eat:

Chooi Yue Dim Sum
2 & 4, Tingkat Taman Ipoh 12, Taman Ipoh Selatan, 31400 Ipoh, Negeri Perak, Malaysia

We takeaway the food as its crowded and we are short of time. The siew mah and the golden lava bun is good. One of the above average dim sum quality. Too bad no pictures for it.

Watercress valley
Lot UT/KF/F 160, 159, Batu 44, 39100, Jalan Besar, Kampung Tringkap, 39000 Tanah Rata, Pahang, Malaysia
This place is super crowded and a lot of people are here for the set steamboat. Since we have steamboat planned for the night, we ordered ala carte dishes.

I was expecting a lot out of the meal but a little disappointed when food is served. The farm grows watercress and you will expect their stir-fry watercress to be out of the world. But it is overcooked and has a bitter aftertaste. Bleh.

Some of the signatures recommended is very greasy so while its delicious on first few mouthfuls, it become queasy after a while.

Cameron organic steamboat

10, Bandar Baru Brinchang, 39100, Cameron Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia

Heard so much about how nice the vegetable steamboat is at Cameron that I must try for myself.

I think its overrated. Might be the vegetables and soup base are not that fantastic and the weather is not the chilly so the vibe is not there. But really, I feel that its just regular steamboat with different kinds of vegetables and above meat (chicken and pork). Not the shabu shabu quality.

The boss of the shop is not exactly friendly either. We are told we can only order the food by per person and no add ons allowed. If we want to add on, we order 4 pax. That is a mistake. We cannot finish the food and literally stuffed ourselves. Food is cheap though we paid about RM 80 for this meal.

To Do:

Green view garden

11, Taman Matahari Cerah, 39010,, Kampung Raja, 39000 Tanah Rata, Pahang, Malaysia

Our first stop for the day. Intention is to eat the fresh strawberry waffles but unable to find it. There’s plenty of strawberry cakes though.

You can get souveniors here like local produce, try their ice cream (just for fun as its not over the top yummy) and take some pictures.

Kids will probably enjoy as they can row little tiny boats and feed the hungry bunnies.
We did a quick tasting of the strawberry cake. Nothing to rave about and that's kind of sad for a place selling strawberries.

Cameron Tringkap Bee farm
Kampung Tringkap, Lot F121, Jalan Besar Bee Farm, Tringkap, 39010, Cameron Highland, Pahang

Place is along a very busy street on brinchang.  Its displays are quite dated and just simply show specimens of a variety of bees. You can finish this pretty fast. I know I did in under a minute (lol I exaggerate)!
They do rear some bees here at the end of the exhibits. You can see them flying in and out of their boxes but its small scale.

Well… you can purchase some local honey here.

Catcus valley/ Big red strawberry farm
39000 Brinchang, Pahang, Malaysia

There so many different varieties and of all sizes. I find this the most interesting place to visit thus far. You can spend some time here but this place can be covered pretty quick as well.

I didn’t know that cactus flowers and its quite pretty too. The grounds are quite easy to navigate and the downside is you see lots of cactus but you don’t know what you are seeing.

The big red strawberry farm is in close proximity with cactus valley. Great for killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

Strawberries available for picking but only in the morning. The areas allowed for picking looks quite bare.

They did sell a lot of different food made of strawberries at a rather spacious canteen but the place is over over over crowded this long weekend.

Vegetable are also grown here. Mum’s super duper happy with the fresh vegetables and bought like 6 bags plus 1 kg of strawberries. The vegetables are bagged at Taman Agro Tourism (Tel 05-4913327)

Cameron valley teahouse 2
34.5 Mile Cameron Highlands, 39000 Tanah Rata, Pahang, Malaysia

There is entrance fee to go down to the tea plants.

I didn't and simply just enjoyed the view from the cafe.

To Stay:

Heritage Hotel Cameron

Jalan Gereja, Cameron Highland, 39000 Tanah Rata, Pahang, Malaysia

Booked the new wing because reviews stated that the old ones are really dated. I was expecting something really really new and upgraded. Some how I feel the place lack the modern clean and fresh look that should come with a NEW wing. So somewhat disappointed but fortunately it ok to stay.

The room is furnished with a fan because we are in the highlands? I scare of creepy crawlies so I kept the curtains drawn and the room become kind of stuffy. Is it suppose to be like this in the highlands? This is my first experience.

Bed is a double bed.

View of the balcony from our room.

The toilet is quite decent.

Breakfast spread is quite a variety of local and international.

Day 3:
·       See: Mossy forest, Boh Sungai Palas
·       Eat: Lunch: Cameron,Barracks cafe, Dinner: Chinatown Seng Kee
·       Stay: Parkroyal @ Bukit Bintang

To Eat:

Barracks cafe
No 1, Jalan Gereja, Tanah Rata, 39000 Tanah Rata, Pahang, Malaysia

This place is a gem. I think the decoration here is very cosy and lovely. I ordered a chicken cutlet and it was really good. Grilled to flavour and still moist. I cleaned out the bowl here.

Chinatown Seng Kee

52, Jalan Sultan, City Centre, 50000 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

I always wanted to come back here again for the minced meat loshifan (pearl noodle). And now after 3-4 years I am finally back.
Hygiene for this place is below average.

The claypot loshifan is as good as I remembered. Yummy.

We ordered some sides too. They are quite tasty but I can just eat the loshifan only.

As we had a long day due to jam on the highway our appetite has also declined.

To Do:

Mossy forest/ Boh Sungai Palas
39000 Brinchang, Pahang, Malaysia

This place is inaccessible if you don’t have a 4WD and its literally a one lane street but it’s a 2 way road. Rounding the corners are the most dangerous and continuous horning is essential to ensure safety.

They have built a boardwalk to see the mossy forest but the area covered is quite small.

There is also a newly built viewing tower which allows you to see the mountains and surrounds.

This is the view from the top of the tower.

Our guide is a very enthusiastic guy who tells you lots about the flora and fauna in the area but somehow our half day tour become like full day tour. Unfortunately time is something we do not have.

Our guide made various stops along the tea plantation of BOH so that we can take some pictures. Did not really spend a lot of time at the Boh Sungai Palas as we are rushing for time. The place is really crowded also at the café. There is detailed explanation of how the tea is made and processed but we really only quickly pass through.

To Stay:

Parkroyal @ bukit bintang
Jalan Sultan Ismail, Bukit Bintang, 50250 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Best of all the hotels. Spacious and super comfortable beds. Great location.
Impeccable service.

Day 4:
See: Shopping at Times square, Shopping at Aeon Dato Onn
Eat: Breakfast wizards, Lunch: Soo Kee’s son (meng chuan) prawn and beef noodles,

To Eat:

Wizards at Tribeca
Ground Floor Residensi Tribeca, Jalan Imbi, 55100 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
One of my to do list at KL is to try at least one café. It’s a MUST and wizards is on the top of my list. Tried the sister company Yellow Brick Road years back so I quite confident they will serve up a storm.

Boy I am not disappointed.

The food is great but mine is foie gras , a little heavy, for breakfast but delicious nonetheless. All the flavours are to the point and its also aesthetically pleasing.

My mum order is good as well. It’s a mix of mushrooms potatoes and tomatoes with a sunny side up.

SO had the most basic which is big breakfast. No surprises expected here.

Coffee is well balanced and soooo good.

Soo Kee’s son (meng chuan) prawn and beef noodles
29B, Medan Imbi, Pudu, 55100 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

think the owner is a bit crafty, we order 2 plates of noodles and I highlighted that we are small eaters but we are served medium sized noodles.

The noodles are well cooked and smooth. The sauce are sweet and flavourful. Its the authentic dark black noodles that SO loves. Hard to find this flavour in Singapore.
