SAR, China - Hong Kong - 4 Days 3 Nights (Part 1 - Itinerary)

I was very excited for this trip as it’s been a while since I took the plane since my ear trauma in November. During flight, my ear can’t seem to equalize the pressure and it was quite a painful where I suffered in between a sore throat and toothache. I recovered as soon as the plane landed and I was quite apprehensive of the return flight. Thankfully, this scenario didn’t really manifest on return flight. Though the ear still felt a little uncomfortable but due to my constant clearing of pressure in the ear its still manageable.

This trip is supposed to be chillax and we take public transport (MTR) and walked on foot most of the time. I set up a map on google (unfortunately no offline map available for HK) and identified the key places to visit. Places to visit is determine the day itself or day prior.

For convenience, we purchase the airport express travel pass HKD 350 with 2 return trips inclusive of 3 days unlimited rides on MTR. We are quite surprised that the pass last us till the end of day 4. Probably because our first MTR trip was clocked at night on Day 1 as during the day a friend brought us around on a taxi. Do obtain a HKD50 refund from the airport on return trip.

I have be trying to pick up a bit of Cantonese since last year and I must say I failed miserably when trying to use it for communication. But at times where waiters or taxi drivers fail to understand you, it does quite come in handy despite sounding very broken.

Shopping purchases are mainly food related like 好到底 noodles, 出前一丁 instant noodles, maxim almond biscuits and Jenny biscuits. Also, to remember this trip we purchase a turning musical Buddha at Ngong Ping and my favourite buy this trip is a painting we chanced upon at Kowloon Station Sze Yue Gallery, 思雨画轩。

There are several wifi hotspots at MTR stations and the local telecom also provides 30 mins free wifi per day. For places like sky100 and international airport wifi is free for access. This is for the budget conscious travelers who are pondering whether to get a local data plan while in HK.

With effect from April 2015, there is a 50cents levy on any plastic bags that retailer offer to customers. While, Hubs friend did highlight this tip to us and to remind us to bring our own bags. The full realisation hit us when we are making purchases and we had to pay for the bags almost everywhere. Fortunately, we got a free recycling bag on first day and that totally came in handy.

Travel dates: 4 August 2016 to 10 August 2016.

Top tips:

Bring your own bags (BYOB) when shopping.
Free wifi is available, just be aware.

Panasonic steam oven NU-SC100WYPQ "Cutie" Product Review

I wanted to get weeks about it  I purchased this item from Tangs at SGD $399. They are having a promotion of discount SGD $50 if you spend SGD $500. So i top up with a vacuum tumbler and pyrex glass dish. After several months of using, here are my comments on this cutie steam oven. This is purely a steam oven with no microwave function. One of the rare oven with no microwave function.  I am ok with it as i steam fishes regularly and its a perfect addition of appliance. The other alternative is the miele steam oven and it is on offer at the same time for SGD $1600. The oven can be plugged to main power point as it is at 13 amp.  Summary: Here are some of my observations using the steam oven.  Buns Easy peasy for the early morning rush to work, put the char siew bao into the oven. Set it to 10 mins and you can steaming hot bun to eat for breakfast. Fish I steam fish majority of the time. It is super easy to use for steaming fish Vegetables Tr...

Kose Beauty Centre Facial Review (Isetan Scotts)

I was very very taken aback when i entered the unassuming beauty salon right in the heart of orchard. While the place is clean and design is simple, it was very sparsely furnished considering its brand name and in comparision with Yamano (the other japanese salon i went).  I entered the facial premises after i passed through the hair salon. What greeted me makes my jaw dropped even more, the room is bare. There is no wall partitions for privacy, in its place are curtains hung to separate the different beds. And i am able to see all the facial therapist and guests. Each therapist handles 2 guests both at the same time!!! From My session suppose to start at 3 pm since my therapist is also handling another customer, i whipped out my phone and start playing candy crush till my therapist is available at 3.30pm. The therapist started by cleaning my face and recommending the appropriate therapy for my skin. I was advised to do the  Whitening & Anti-ageing Treatment an...

Banquet -Parkroyal beach road (Wedding dinner review)

I attended a wedding in October 2013 at the Parkroyal beach road. Boy! I was in for a surprise. The hotel is newly renovated and refurbished to a very corporate and clean polished look. There is a huge area for reception. Even the exterior area is also revamped (i didn't manage to get pictures for outdoors). You can hold your ROM outdoors and have decorated to an outdoor garden setting. Yes the outdoor area is that huge! This place has changed so dramatically.  By comparison, a banquet held at the same location in 2010, see review here . There is alot more room since the wedding i attended is no longer at the other ballroom. The ceilings of the ballroom are tall, creating an illusion of space and comfort.See the ballroom with the backdrop. The photo below is where the bride and the groom walks down the aisle from the back. You are guaranteed a long long walk down the aisle. Romantic backdrop for the stage in romantic flowers display. Interestingly the cham...
